1. Background
Undikumbukire Project (UP) Zambia is a charitable human rights organisation supporting vulnerable children in conflict with the law with free legal representation, social services and advocacy for a restorative justice system. In partnership with Save the Children and Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), we are currently implementing The Comprehensive Bilateral Anti Human Trafficking Project.
This project aims to strengthen the efforts of Zambia’s government and civil society organizations to prevent human trafficking; proactively identify, protect, and provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care for victims of trafficking; effectively investigate, prosecute, and convict perpetrators of human trafficking; and create an enabling environment to promote effective collaboration and partnerships to address human trafficking.
We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Consultant to lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive awareness campaign and related communication materials.
3. Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
- Campaign Strategy: Develop a strategic communications plan to raise awareness about human trafficking, tailored for diverse audiences including schools, communities, and organizations.
- Awareness Materials: Produce compelling written and visual content for TV, radio, social media, posters, banners, and digital platforms.
- Social media & Digital Campaigns: Design and implement hashtag campaigns, video content, infographics, interactive tools (quizzes, surveys), and regular posts/articles for platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
- Media Outreach: Draft press releases, assemble press kits, coordinate with journalists, and track media coverage to maximize campaign reach.
- Internal Communication: Prepare newsletters and updates for project teams and stakeholders, ensuring effective internal information flow.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Analyze media coverage and digital analytics to measure campaign effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in strategic communications, preferably in the non-profit or advocacy sector.
- Proven ability to develop and execute multi-channel communication campaigns.
- Strong writing, editing, and graphic design skills (portfolio required).
- Demonstrated experience with social media management, digital content creation, and analytics.
- Experience in media relations and community engagement.
- Sensitivity to ethical storytelling, especially when working with vulnerable populations.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Familiarity with human trafficking or social justice issues is an advantage
